About the lesson
Quick summary: The following lessons are designed to encourage independent learning through research and a hands-on experiment. This gives students the opportunity to build their knowledge and understanding in their own time, and collaborate with others through a group experiment.
Learning goals:
Students to understand the importance of science in improving life quality.
Students learn to critically think about the implication of energy consumption and production in every day life.
General capacity:
Critical and creative thinking.
Basic knowledge of chemical reactions.

Content descriptions
Year 9&10 Chemical Science Victoria Curriculum
Different types of chemical reactions are used to produce a range of products and can occur at different rates; chemical reactions may be represented by balanced chemical equations (VCSSU125)
Year 10 Chemical Science Australian curriculum
Different types of chemical reactions are used to produce a range of products and can occur at different rates ACSSU187
Duration
1-2hours
Students will learn about the basis of electrochemistry along with the procedure to conduct a thermoelectricity experiment followed by some insights into our scientist' work, the current research and application of thermoelectricity using thermocells.
